Xperto helps tourists with emergencies and other situations. The app is
designed to assist in categories such as health, safety, culture,
communication, and mobility. Xperto is initially customized and available
for the Olympic and Paralympic games Rio 2016.
Volunteers’assistance can be reached through the app, with the goal of
helping the previously mentioned categories online. In order to
participate, one who wishes to be a volunteer must register and be
authorized first.
Xperto was developed by PUC-Rio’s Informatics Department(DI PUC-Rio) with
the assistance of the Ministry of Culture (MinC), the Digital Video
Applications Laboratory (LaViD) from the Federal University of Paraiba
(UFPB), and CGIR PUC-Rio: Centro Gestão Integrada de Risco. The initiative
is part of the project “Waves of Culture” of MinC, focusing in the
development and diffusion of five apps (Culturi, Meu Olhar, Fans, Festa
and Xperto), related to activities developed by the ministry during the
Olympic and Paralympic Games 2016.
The term Xperto is composed by the letter “X”, which indicates the spot or
location. “Perto” in Portuguese means “close by”, which indicates that
help is on its way. The name also refers to experts in determined
subjects.
